Kehlsteinhaus, Germany

This majestic view, on the border between Germany and Austria, is truly a sight to behold. And yet, its foundation was built on the pain and suffering of others. This heavenly spot was constructed as a 50th birthday present for the one and only, Adolf Hitler. Not only was it paid for with Nazi money (stolen from their numerous victims), but it was also an incredibly daring and dangerous construction project due to it’s innovative elevators and the short time with which they had to build it. Many died in the making of this haven for the Third Reich. And worst of all? Hitler didn’t even appreciate it. He had a fear of heights. Go figure.

Pro-Tip: Pay attention to the history of every place that you visit. There is always more than meets the eye.
