When traveling in unfamiliar territory, our bodies can have all sorts of weird responses. Sometimes, when separated from your usual environment, you find that you are less stressed, have fewer distractions, get more sleep and have fewer headaches. Or, you discover a previously unknown allergy to feather pillows when you wake up in the morning and find that half of your face is swollen shut. But the kicker is, you don’t realize what the issue is until 3 days later, so you spend the whole day with a jacked up face, feel better towards the evening, and then wake up with an even worse case the following morning. An extra perk is to have people treat you like the Elephant Man – staring at you with a mixture of pity and fascination.
Pro-tip: Bring non-drowsy Benadryl with you every time you travel. You never know what fun new environmental allergies you will discover in a foreign country.
