Masada, Israel

On your first trip to Israel, you expect to see the usual sites and cities: Jerusalem, the Western Wall, the Dead Sea, riding a camel in the desert, etc. What you don’t expect is to accidentally inhale a cloud of dust, lose the ability to catch your breath, cough for the next few hours, eventually go to the emergency room, be issued an inhaler in a foreign language with medical instructions that you can’t read, go to the allergist once you finally return home and discover that you now have exercise induced asthma. The cherry on top? This also happened within my first few days as a new student in high school, so allergy girl became my first impression and a large part of my high school identity. Luckily, I was able to rebrand in college.

Pro-Tip: Honestly, this one was fairly unpredictable, I’m not sure how I could have taken preventative measures.
