Gent, Belgium

Travel is about experiencing new places, new culture, and sometimes most importantly, new foods. But what do you do when the local specialty is something that you can’t eat? We have a decent amount of food restriction/sensitivity in my family. We all keep varying degrees of kashrut (kosher), I’m a pescatarian and am allergic to peanuts (and also very very picky), and my mom can’t have any dairy or chocolate. So that means no Belgian chocolate and no Belgian waffles for mom. What’s a girl to do?

Pro-tip: Just because you can’t partake in everything a place has to offer does not mean that you can’t have a full and rich experience there. There’s more than one way to ingratiate yourself into a new culture.
