Modesty and religion go hand in hand. And while there is nothing wrong with that in itself, there does seem to be a gender imbalance where this rule applies. Unfortunately, this issue crops up a lot in Italy where there are many many many churches to visit. And on a 95 degree day where you are forced to purchase a paper garment that covers you from head to toe while your brother gets to walk around in a tank top, you might just start understanding why people are turning to atheism.
Pro-Tip: If you know that you’ll be visiting a church on your trip, bring along a few shawls. At least then they can’t force you to buy one on site.
