Vatican City

Perhaps the strongest memories I have to associate with this unique city-state are the ridiculously long lines. As an art major, I had long been looking forward to seeing Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel. Unfortunately, because the place was so crowded, it was difficult to take in the full majesty of it. Most of the day was spent on line, holding onto various ticket stubs, and standing in place, waiting. The fact that this was the first day of the trip and jet-lag was in full force made the struggle all too real.

Pro-tip: Is there a less crowded time of year to visit Vatican City? If so, go then. And get a good night’s sleep before you go. And wear comfy shoes.
